The idea

In Germany, “where are you from?” is a question with local pride behind it. heimatliga.lol turns that into a table: every district collects votes, the map takes on colour, and in the end it is on the record which home town has the most people speaking for it.

The interactive map

All 400 districts are shaded by their share of the vote. Hover a district for the details, click to select it. Looking for one of the smaller city districts? The federal-state filter zooms the map to each of the 16 states individually, and the search box finds any district by name.

Voting without a hurdle

No login, no password, no email. One vote per connection, changeable at any time. An invisible bot check keeps scripts out without making you solve a puzzle. The full rules are here.

Prince of your district

Next to the free game there is a paid one: a princely title can be bought for any district, which puts your handle on the map and into the Hall of Princes. Being outbid costs you the throne but not your credit: coming back only costs the difference.

Where the data comes from

The boundaries are official and so are the population figures. None of it is fetched at runtime — both are precomputed and shipped with the project.

District boundaries: administrative areas from the German Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG, VG250), Data licence Germany attribution 2.0 — dl-de/by-2-0.
Population: Eurostat, dataset demo_r_pjanaggr3 (NUTS 3, as of 2024). In Germany the NUTS 3 level is exactly the district level.

Eisenach has been part of the Wartburgkreis since 1 July 2021. That is why this site counts 400 districts and not 401.
